PETROLEUM GAS UNIVERSITY OF PLOIESTI THE DEPARTMENT OF DRILLING - PRODUCTION # 39 B-dul BUCURESTI, PLOIESTI, Zip 100680 Tel.: +40-244-573171/int. 221 Fax: +40-244-575847, E-mail: foraj@mail.upg-ploiesti.ro GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT The Drilling – Production Department was founded in 1948 at the same time with the Petroleum and Gas Institute and the Faculty of Drilling and Oil Production; the first head of the department was Assoc. Prof. Eng. M. Constantinescu in 1952; the department divided into The Drilling Department (having as heads of the department Assoc. Prof. Eng. A. Miliutin and Prof. Dr. Eng. D. Tocan) and The Production Department (having as head Prof. Dr. Eng. G. Ioachim, Member of the Romanian Academy) functioning under this form until 1974. Whrn the Insitute changed the location to Ploiesti, only one department was preserved, having as heads Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. L. Bulau, Prof.Dr.Eng. C. Beca, Prof.Dr.Eng. E. Soare, Prof.Dr.Eng. C. Popa, Prof.Dr.Eng. G. Iordache and beginning with 2004 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. V. Grigore. THE DEPARTMENT BOARD
The Dilling Production Department, the only one in the country, has always had presigious staff, who assured the training of the graduates in the petroleum field. the subjects taught during the years by the teaching staff have always been updated and enriched, in accordance with the scientific and technological progress of the petroleum field. Some of the courses, such as: Well Drilling, Petroleum and Gas Production, Production Economy and Design, Hydrocarbon Reservoir Physics, have a permanent character, being taught starting with the foundation of the department. Other courses, such as: Drilling Fluids, Rock Mechanics, Off-shore Drilling, Special Drilling, Gas Production, Secondary Exploitation of Petroleum Reservoirs, Underground Water Exploitation and Use have been taught as a result of the progress in the corresponding fields, being imposed for practical reasons as well. When the Master’s Degree Programmes were established, the teaching staff of the department started to offer lectures on specialized fields, such as: Directional Well Drilling, Directional Well Completion, Accidents and Issues Dealing with Directional Wells Drilling, Physisical- Chemical Interactions within the Hydrocarbon Reservoirs, Petroleum Extraction by means of Directional and Horizontal Wells, Gas Extraction, Treatment and Storage,Off-shore Well Exploitation, Well Productivity Stimulation, Natural Gas Treatment. The training offered to the students takes place in optimal conditions as the department possesses well-equipped laboratories. INFRASTRUCTURE
