OBJECTIVES
The updated curricula promoted by the department aim at forming the following competences:
- Instrumental:
- Discovery of the regularity system of the languages under scrutiny;
- Use of a variety of instruments to analyse the literary and non-literary texts to achieve a close critical reading;
- Analysis of texts from different points of view to go beyond canons of interpretation and cultural stereotypes;
- Use of multimedia to do research.
- Interpersonal:
- Use of various communication strategies to establish and maintain verbal contact with different interlocutors;
- Evaluation of cultural diversity when analysing literary texts;
- Assuming a variety of roles within a team to solve a task.
- Systemic:
- Use of a variety of communication codes, verbal and non-verbal, appropriate to a diversity of situations;
- Work with basic structures of the studied foreign languages to efficiently communicate in real situations;
- Systematizing readings from a comparative point of view so as to come up to expectations;
- Development of open cultural representations about the evolution and values of the two cultures under scrutiny.
The Department forms specialists in the field of Philology who can work as teachers, research assistants, researchers, linguists, translators, interpreters, editors, reviewers, editors.
The Department also offers adequate education in the field of foreign languages to students from other Bachelor programs in the University: engineering, economics, public administration, sciences (Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry).
