The General Presentation of the Department
The Physical Education (P.E.) and Spots Department was established in the year 1950, having benefited from the very beginning of competence and activity due to the hard working staff that had a very good pedagogical preparation, specialists of name , “sound” names in the Physical Education and Spots Teachers Guild in our country.
The department staff assures the specialised preparation of the students in the I and II year of study from all fields of activity in the Petroleum and Gas University (PGU) that is finalised with qualification marks , following our discipline’s objectives.
Another important objective for our staff is the self-help activity through different procedures : scientific research, courses for specialising and perfecting , masters degree and doctorate.
In order to successfully accomplish the didactic activities , wide spread and performance sports, the staff has been permanently preoccupied with maintaining and enriching the spots equipment , with specialised gear.
The moral and professional qualities of the staff (past been or present today) have made possible the presence of an academic climate, and as a recognition of their value , this department has been chosen and named on the boards of council boards of national federations , municipal, county and central specialised councils (M.T.S.) and in the teachers board from various faculties and from the University Senate.
The Physical Education and Sports department’s activity has been through several stages , that meant a lot of changes as a following of the measures took by the state through the specialised minister involving the Physical Education and Sports discipline in higher education.
- the period between 1948-1950 ; the p.e. and sports activity had only to gain due to the fact that IPGG Bucharest was functioning in the same building with the Medium Technical School for Physical Culture and Sports that had all the necessary material needs and a adequate climate for a good sportive activity
- the period between 1950-1956 ; in the year 1950 Physical Education and Spots is introduced in the learning plans of the institutes and universities as a compulsory discipline for the I and II year of study and optional for the students in the III and IV years
- the period between 1956-1960 ; was marked by two orders from the Education Minister : order nr.1/22.11.1956 that extended the optional character of the p.e. and sport activity from the I to the V year , directing the activity on fields of sports. The Educational Minister, alarmed by the continual decline of the biometric potential of the students , was brought by the Order number 147/1958 the obligation of the frequency for the I year by “physical education norm”
- the period between 1960-1990 ; is characterised by stability due to the department’s ability to enact the analytic programs on sport branches , elaborated by the Research and Education Minister , to the possibilities offered by the material base present in the department and the requirements of the universities management , perfectly integrating in the structure of the learning process in PGU
- the period between 1990-1999 ; is marked by the Research and Education Minister’s Decision from 1994 that starting with the school year 1994-1995 , the Physical Education and Spot disciplines should be maintained as compulsory in the I and II years of study. Likewise this stage marks the opening of 2 positions as grinders, 3 positions of assistant and one position of lecturer, all of the being filed radically changing the age average in the department.
